Player archetypes
Different roles create value in different ways. Explore illustrative forward and defence role profiles below. These are role descriptions to guide development, not promised professional projections.
Two-Way Forward
A forward whose value shows up at both ends of the ice — reliable in the defensive zone while still generating offense. Development priorities typically center on puck support, gap control and reading the play in transition.
Complementary Forward
A forward who raises the level of the players around them — strong on puck retrievals, net-front presence and playing a supporting role within a line's structure.
Transitional Defenceman
A defenceman whose game is built around moving the puck out of the defensive zone cleanly and supporting the rush, paired with sound defensive-zone positioning.
